We crossed the QLD/NT border about 15 km from Camooweal so we are now in Northern Territory and the time difference is 30 minutes behind Qld time. A little while after we crossed the border, in the middle of nowhere, we were pulled up by the police for a breathalizer and a check of our registration of the car and caravan.
The next day we continued on, turning north at Barkly Homestead and heading towards Cape Crawford. I don't know why it is called Cape Crawford as it is nowhere near the sea. We camped for the night at Kiana Turnoff which is l07km south of Cape Crawford. This camp was much smaller than the last and we where the only ones there for the night. The road from Barkly was once again a narrow sealed road where you had to move to the side if anything was coming toward you. The landscape was very flat with very few trees, there were many kilometers of unfenced paddocks and we had to dodge cows that had wandered on the road.
The next morning we headed on to Cape Crawford and stopped for a break at the Heartbreak Hotel.
They had toilets labelled Elvis and Prisilla which I thought was quite cute. The caravan park behind the hotel looked very nice, but we decided to push on. We were going to stop at another free camp at Bullwaddy Rest Area but there had been extensive bush fires through there, so we went on to the Highway Inn Caravan Park at Daly Waters. As the weather was getting quite hot we wanted to run the airconditioner to cool off and also do some washing. The rates for the park were $25.00 per night but they gave you a voucher for two free drinks at the pub (value $11.00) so that was quite good. The park was quite shady and the amenities were clean.
