Our reunion started on the 23rd July with a meet and greet at the Skyline Apartments and then we went to finger food and drinks to the Viking Restaurant on the riverside in Brisbane.
Bob and I decided to catch the train in from Marie's place as the traffic in Brisbane is very heavy.
The following day we jumped on a bus at the Apartments at 8.00am and drove down to the Gold Coast. We had a river cruise and morning tea on the Logan River cruising around all the wealthy residences and up to the mouth of the river. We then went on to Currumbin and had a lovely lunch at the Currumbin Surf Club and to finish the day we went to Ray's (the convenor of the convention) place on Tamborine Mountain to have afternoon tea. It is a lovely home right on the escarpment of Tamborine Mountain with beautiful views over the Gold Coast.
The following day we had a bus tour of Brisbane city with Ray pointing out the history of the old buildings and Brisbane in general as he has lived there all his life. We then went on to the Botanical Gardens and had a tour through the Japanese garden and theMemorial Wall. We had lunch at the gardens and then walked to the Planatarium and had a presentation in their theatre on the black holes in the atmosphere and a talk on the stars and planets. We then went to Southbank and had an evening meal at Decks Restaurant, which was quite expensive but very nice.
Our last day was a trip up to the Sunshine Coast. We had lunch at a very pleasant pub (I cannot remember the town) and then went on to the Glasshouse Mountain Lookout, a quick trip to Montville for some shopping, and then on to King Ludwig's German Restaurant for our final meal.
The restaurant has a beautiful view over the Glasshouse Mountains. We were greated by a representative from Scenic Tours and had a mulled wine and a pretzel as starters, then had a lovely meal. We were encouraged to participate in the entertainment, which everyone did with little encouragement. It was a great night and also our farewell.
