FOUNTAIN SPRINGS TO MAX WELTON REST AREA TO CAMPASPE RIVER REST AREA

Left Fountain Springs and continued along the Flinders Highway through Cloncurry and stopped at Julia Creek to have a look around and have morning tea.   Julia Creek is a small town but very neat and tidy, we stopped and had a pie for morning tea.    We then continued on to Max Welton Rest Area where we stayed for the night.    This area was beside the highway and a bit noisy.    It had nice clean toilets, water  and large picnic area, definately a good one for an overnight stay.
From there we continued on through Richmond and then stopped again in Hughenden for a cuppa.
The road between Julia Creek and Hughenden was not good with lots of dips at the floodways and we had to reduce speed quite a lot to prevent the car and caravan bucking when we drove over them.
After Hughenden the road was good with very few dips.    We continued on to Campaspe River Rest Area and stayed there one night.   This rest area was lovely beside the river with plenty of trees and toilets but very noisy.    Unfortunately there was a rail line quite close on side and the highway on the other and all night goods trains ran along the rail line and road trains ran along the road and over the bridge across the river.    We decided to move on the next morning and headed towards Charters Towers.
